The slow cooker is one of the best inventions in this world! I love how everything tastes and how easy is to use it. Believe it or not, this amazing appliance isn’t that common in Latin America, in fact I never heard of it till I moved to the United States. In Colombia is very common to use the pressure cooker; my mom always cooks with it. However, I keep telling the reasons she needs to start cooking with a slow cooker!
Although I heard good things about the slow cooker, I never tried it until I got married. My husband said that since we had one we should take advantage and cook with it. The day that I decided to give it a shot came very soon after that talk! I don’t remember what was my first recipe but what I can tell you is that I use it almost every week. As a matter of a fact, I am cooking a delicious pot roast for tonight’s dinner.
Life gets so busy sometimes. When I was working full time, I started using my crock pot more and more. By the end of the day I was always so tired, but it was nice to know that a warm meal was waiting for us. I want you to enjoy good meals without having to put tons of time into them. That’s why I’d like to share with you why this simple appliance can make your life easier.
– Set it and forget it:
I love how easy is to cook with a Slow cooker. You don’t have to worry about a thing. Do you need to go out for a little time or for the whole day? By all means, do it! Be aware though, a nice a yummy food will be waiting for you when you come back :). However, your meals might get overcooked. If you’re going to be out for more than 8 hours, you should consider a programmable slow cooker that changes to the warm setting once the cooking time you chose is done.
– Mess free:
Although I still cook with different types of cookware. For a nice meal you normally need more than one pot, pan or skillet, which means, more cleaning. With a slow cooker you will only have one pot to wash. For real, it doesn’t get better than that. Plus, a lot of the times, there are food and oil particles that splatter all over the place thus the stovetop ends up dirty. With a slow cooker you won’t have any spills at all. Instead, countertops and stove top will be impeccable.
There are many recipes you can make with your slow cooker. Whether you want to cook soups, beef stew, fajitas, nacho dip, or even chocolate cake! Your crockpot will allow you to do it. The combinations are endless! Truth be told, if you just have a couple of ingredients on hand, I’m sure you can find a good tasting recipe to make or, why not, invent!
Put in the ingredients, cover and turn it on? How easy is that. Not only you’re just cooking with one appliance but you are also get free time to relax and enjoy you food later on. With 10 to 20 minutes of preparation, your meal will taste as you have put 4-8 hours on it!
Although cooking with a Crock Pot requires some preparation, as everything in life, it’s normally just a couple of minutes while you gather and organize the ingredients. However, since you don’t have to babysit your food for long periods of time, once you turn the slow cooker on, you can put that time on things you want or need to do. In addition, and depending the size of your crockpot, you can cook larger meals in the same amount of time. That you can later freeze up, or eat another day of the week. How cool is that?
NOTE: Some recipes will require you to go back and check your food to add and extra ingredient or maybe to to take one out. This is so you don’t overcook your meal or end up with mushy potatoes or stiff meats.
I hope you enjoy reading this post and I encourage you to try this amazing appliance. You won’t regret it! Do you cook with a slow cooker? What do think about it? what is your to go recipe when you use it?
