Paper Build a Rocket Craft for Kids | FREE PDF Template!

Are you looking for a fun space activity for your kids?

This Paper Build-a-Rocket Craft is perfect for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and children in the early education age group. It includes a free template available in both color and black and white for coloring.

With four different rocket designs, kids can create their own unique rockets while practicing their cutting and gluing skills (AKA fine motor skills).

I also used the right words as parts of the rocket. These terms include nose cone, motor, exhaust flame, fins, etc. Making this craft a great addition to a rocket study unit.

The best part?

Prep is almost non-existent! Print, cut, and glue.

Step 1 – Print & Cut Template

Print the rocket your child wants to build. You can show him/her the different options. There’s also a page with some astronauts for extra creative play.

For this step-by-step tutorial, I will be using the rocket #3

materials for making a "paper build a rocket craft."

Tip: For very small children, you may need to help cut some parts of the rockets, like thin rocket strips and nose cones.

Step 2 – Glue

Each rocket has a little picture at the end to show how it looks once assembled.

Some things should be glued first than others so everything comes together the right way.

  1. Start with the nose cone, followed by the white strips.
  2. Glue the side fins behind the rocket and the remaining fin in front of it.
  3. Flip the rocket and glue the exhaust flame.
  1. Glue the window between the two strips.
  2. You can choose to glue the little astronaut in the window or get the extra astronaut included in the template. Or why not? Both!

And just like that, the rocket is completed!

Doesn’t it look cool?

Here are other rockets included in the template as well!

Whenever possible, I like to give you different crafting choices. This allows you to include your child in the decision-making process.

I love this black and gray rocket!

Each rocket has its respective astronaut looking through the window, too!
