Level 1: Tiny Tracker (Very Easy)

I put a lot of extra care into creating the Level 1 puzzles for early readers. Some themes naturally have very limited beginner-friendly vocabulary, so I work hard to find words that both match the topic and support early reading skills.

For these puzzles, I prioritize:

  • CVC words,
  • CCVC and CVCC words,
  • and simple early digraphs whenever possible.

The puzzles are also organized from easiest to hardest to help build confidence step by step. My goal for Level 1 is to support reading development, so I’d rather use a simpler word that fits the theme than a more challenging one that may feel frustrating for beginning readers.

For this 4th of July collection, you’ll find two different Level 1 word searches to choose from. Each puzzle uses a 6×6 grid and includes six patriotic words to find.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)

Level 2: Junior Explorer (Easy)

Designed for 1st graders and growing 2nd-grade readers.

I designed these puzzles to progress from simpler words to slightly more advanced vocabulary. While most words can be decoded independently, a few may require some support from a parent or teacher, making them perfect for guided reading practice and vocabulary growth.

With a 10×10 grid and 12 words per puzzle, you’ll find anywhere between 4 and 6-letter words. There are two different puzzles at this level as well.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)

Level 3: Word Wrangler (Medium)

The Word Wrangler is the perfect challenge for late 2nd graders, most 3rd graders, and growing readers who are ready for a bigger puzzle adventure.

With two different options, a 15×15 grid, and 20 words to find in each puzzle, kids can practice reading and expand their 4th of July vocabulary.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)

Level 4: Brain Buster (Medium-Hard)

There are two “Brain Buster” word searches! These puzzles are perfect for confident readers, older kids, teens, and adults who enjoy a more challenging word search experience.

There are two options to choose from in a 20×20 grid, and 30 words to find!

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)

Level 5: Puzzle Master (Hard)

Let’s elevate things a bit!

The Puzzle Master level is designed for strong readers, experienced puzzle fans, teens, and adults looking for a real challenge. This 30×30 puzzle includes 50 patriotic words to find, featuring American history, symbols, traditions, and Independence Day vocabulary hidden throughout the grid.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal bottom left to top right (↗)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)

Topic Trek puzzles are special themed word searches that dive deeper into different parts of the 4th of July experience, including parades, cookout favorites, America’s founding, patriotic symbols, and fireworks displays.

These five puzzles use larger 20×20 grids and include around 20 themed words each for a more immersive and focused experience. They’re perfect for older kids, teens, and adults who enjoy diving deeper into a specific topic while still celebrating everything that makes the 4th of July special.
