Level 1: Tiny Tracker (Very Easy)

I put a lot of extra care into creating the Level 1 puzzles for early readers. Some themes naturally have very limited beginner-friendly vocabulary, so I work hard to find words that both match the topic and support early reading skills.

For these puzzles, I prioritize:

  • CVC words,
  • CCVC and CVCC words,
  • and simple early digraphs whenever possible.

The puzzles are also organized from easiest to hardest to help build confidence step by step. My main goal for Level 1 is to support reading development, so I’d rather use a simpler word related to the theme than a harder one that may feel frustrating for beginning readers.

There are three different searches to choose from. The grid is 6×6, and each puzzle has six words to find.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)

Level 2: Junior Explorer (Easy)

Designed for 1st graders and growing 2nd-grade readers.

I designed these puzzles to progress from simpler words to slightly more advanced vocabulary. While most words can be decoded independently, a few may require some support from a parent or teacher, making them perfect for guided reading practice and vocabulary growth.

With a 10×10 grid and 12 words per puzzle, you’ll find anywhere between 4 and 6-letter words. There are three different puzzles at this level as well.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)

Level 3: Word Wrangler (Medium)

The Word Wrangler is the perfect challenge for late 2nd graders, most 3rd graders, and growing readers who are ready for a bigger puzzle adventure.

With three different options, a 15×15 grid, and 20 words to find in each puzzle, kids can practice reading and expand their ocean vocabulary.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)

Level 4: Brain Buster (Medium-Hard)

There are two “Brain Buster” word searches included! These puzzles are perfect for confident readers, older kids, teens, and adults who enjoy a more challenging word search experience.

There are two options to choose from in a 20×20 grid, and 30 words to find!

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)

Level 5: Puzzle Master (Hard)

Let’s elevate things a bit!

The Puzzle Master level is designed for strong readers, experienced puzzle fans, teens, and adults looking for a real challenge. There are two options to choose from in a 30×30 grid, and 50 ocean words to find.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal bottom left to top right (↗)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)

Level 6: Legendary Linguist (Very Hard)

Think you’ve mastered word searches? The Legendary Linguist level is the ultimate ocean challenge in this printable pack.

With a massive 40×40 grid and 100 hidden words to find, this puzzle is designed for advanced readers, teens, adults, and dedicated puzzle lovers who enjoy intense word search challenges. Expect dense grids, difficult scanning patterns, and a true test of patience, focus, and vocabulary skills.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal bottom left to top right (↗)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)

Topic Trek

Do you prefer a particular ocean theme instead of a broad mix of ocean words?

Topic Trek puzzles are special, themed word searches that dive deeper into specific ocean topics such as deep-sea creatures, coral reefs, ocean giants, ocean storms, and water sports!

These five puzzles use larger 20×20 grids and typically include around 20 themed words for a more immersive and challenging experience. Some specialized topics may contain slightly fewer words when the vocabulary pool is more limited. Topic Trek puzzles are perfect for older kids, teens, and adults who enjoy more focused word search challenges.

Directions words can be found:

  • Horizontal left to right (→)
  • Horizontal right to left (←)
  • Diagonal bottom left to top right (↗)
  • Diagonal top left to bottom right (↘)
  • Vertical top to bottom (↓)
  • Vertical bottom to top (↑)
  • Diagonal bottom right to top left (↖)
  • Diagonal top right to bottom left (↙)
